Begging, broke, downtrodden black men are a dime a dozen here in Atlanta. I don’t know if this is just an Atlanta thing, but something needs to be said…
When I go to Wal-mart or even the gas station, it nears fails. I am constantly hounded by black men who are begging for money. Some of them are old. Some of them are young. Some of them look middle age. All of them are able-bodied. All of them seem to have their right mind.
Usually they are trying to sell you some bullshit rap album they made or they’re just trying to get some money out of you.
Today while walking out of Wal-mart I found myself being harassed for money by a young black man as I walked to my car. I told him straight up I couldn’t help him, but he continued to pester me. Finally I told that brother he needed to go find his ass a JOB and stop bothering me.
Fast forward two weeks ago…
I was driving home from work in the rain when my tire pressure light came to life on my dashboard. After screaming all kinds of angry obscenities I pulled over to a gas station and began putting air in my tires. While I was doing this a black man who was parked at one of the gas pumps walked over to me and asked me if I could give him some money for gas.
Now keep in mind, this was the middle of the night. It was cold, raining, and I’m bent down trying to put air in my tires as my hands became numb from the cold. Not to mention I was annoyed as hell.
I told that motherfucker to get all the way the hell out of my face! While trying to put air in my tires I had to keep one eye on him and one eye on what I was doing.
Fast forward three months ago…
I’m at a Kroger gas station trying to put gas in my car. A black man who is leaning on the trunk of his car at one of the gas pumps sends his son over to my car to beg for money. I looked from the boy to the grown ass able-bodied nigga who sent him over to me.
I immediately felt sorry for the boy. He was clearly uncomfortable in the situation and I was deeply bothered that any parent would make their child do this type of shit. What kind of message does this send to a boy about his father and his role as a man?
Anyway, long story short, I politely told the boy NO!
I don’t know what the hell is wrong with black men. I know they suffer from unemployment at a disproportionate rate, but I will never understand how these dudes can get in a car without having money to put gas the car.
Why is it that they can produce and hustle a shitty mixtape in the parking lot of Wal-mart of all places but they can’t figure out how to enroll in tech school or college?
They need to be held accountable for their nonsense. This type of stuff is unacceptable.
